Synopsis

On a remote and disappearing archipelago, the Magdalen Islands (Québec, Canada), a group of teenagers navigate their final summer together as their homeland erodes into the sea. Shot on 16mm film, the project blends direct cinema and mise-en-scene to archive both the fragile territory and ephemeral moments of youth. Beyond the Waves is a love letter to a disappearing world and a generation on the cusp of change, reminding us of what it means to love something that may soon be lost.
